[Facebook Security] Securing your facebook account

Again, my Facebook account was hacked by unknown personal from KL. I was quite frustrated on what happened, done a few things to get back my account.

First, when you want to log-in your Facebook account. Make sure you are log-in via the https://www.facebook.com but not http://www.facebook.com. They are different and you will know how if you continue reading this post.

Also, I figured out some new ways to secure my account and I think most of the people do not know about this (even myself until I had been told). I will share it here and kindly ignore if you already know about HTTPS and LOGIN NOTIFICATION, or you do not care about your Facebook account.

Enabling secure browsing
By default, Facebook was only provides secure HTTP (HTTPS) whenever your id and password needed to be transmit, and remains using normal HTTP for viewing. It means that the information in the log-in page (ID, password,etc..), it is highly safe from threats (hacker,etc..) but what you view or type after that is possible to be known by others.

Facebook now has an option for the users to use HTTPS not only during log-in page, but using it all the time in the Facebook, known as secure browsing (none of your info related to Facebook is public to others).

It is easy to enable it. Click on your account setting. Scroll down until you see Account Security. Then tick the "Browse Facebook on a secure connection (https) whenever possible" check box.

Login notification
Below the https stuff, there is another option called login notification. It is recommended for you to enable login notification as well. With this option being enabled, every login (performed by anyone) of your account will be notified through sending an email or sms to you. In case of unauthorized login, you can terminate the unauthorized login session through clicking "end activity" at the account security webpage. You can even know where the unauthorized login performed.

You can even do this on your WINDOW LIVE mail

For personal without Information Technology background:
HTTP - you can assume it as a single webpage.
